Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) Thursday voted to pass the H.R. 1585, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2019, of which she is a cosponsor. The bill provides grants to state and local governments to reduce violent crime against women, specifically targeting: domestic violence, stalking, date violence, and sexual assault.
“Violence against women of any kind should never be tolerated,” said Houlahan. “As a mother to daughters, I take the charge of protecting women quite seriously. I am proud to stand up for the women of the Pennsylvanian Sixth and reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act of 1994. This strengthened version improves services for victims of domestic, dating, and sexual violence and closes loopholes in current firearms laws to help prevent intimate partner homicides. This bipartisan legislation is an important step in addressing the alarming rate of domestic and sexual violence the women in our country face.”
